Dr. Shikha Nangia, associate professor of biomedical and chemical engineering and associate dean of research and graduate programs in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), has been awarded the Chancellor’s Citation for Faculty Excellence and Scholarly Distinction. This honor recognizes faculty whose research and creative work have advanced their academic discipline and elevated Syracuse University’s scholarly reputation.
Since joining the University in 2010, Dr. Nangia has led groundbreaking research in computational biophysics with a focus on overcoming challenges in drug delivery to the brain. Her work, which explores how to engineer molecules that can cross the blood-brain barrier, has significant implications for the treatment of neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and glioblastoma.
In her role as associate dean, Nangia has supported ECS’s research mission by facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations and strengthening graduate programs. A longstanding advocate for inclusive excellence in STEM, she has also played a vital role in the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) initiative at Syracuse, championing equity and opportunity for students and faculty alike.
The Chancellor’s Citation was presented at the One University Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 11 in Hendricks Chapel, celebrating members of the Syracuse community who demonstrate outstanding achievement and service in advancing the University’s mission.
Dr. Nangia’s recognition reflects not only her distinguished contributions to science and engineering but also her commitment to mentorship, academic leadership, and a more inclusive research environment.
